iPad Feature Requests

It would be nice to have a home button and a home button for each tab, like is on the iPhone. It would be nice to have a forward and back button like in web browsers. And how about a button on the top line to see all 20 tabs along with auto hide, one less display line will give more room at the top of the display. The Library button could also show all the tabs and icons since there is plenty of room. Why do we need two buttons to add or delete tabs, the space is taken up with or without 20 tabs on? Have the Library display go away after the last selection. Add the search icon at top of the Library display. Bring back the option for grid search. Since there is more room, make the chapter and verse grids have rows of ten each so that the left column reads, blank,10,20,30,40, etc to get rid of the need to scroll and make it faster to find the number. Please change the Library display to match the tab trail when you change tabs. Make the swipe left and right move to the next page or to last page, since we do not need two ways to get the the next chapter and we badly need a way to page with scrolling. When you add or change a feature please consider how many taps or scrolls it take to get a function done, the big problem with the new iPad app is that every thing takes two or three times as many taps or scrolls to get something done. For example count the number of taps and scrolls it takes to find D & C 76:105 (and do not start at normal home as you are not normally there, start by first going to John 3:16 then start counting), on the iPad and then on the iPhone. There are more requests, but that is my best wish list.

Let me break my response down

Let me break my response down into sections:

The icon for each tab acts as its own home button. For example, if you've navigated down through the library somewhere, just tap on the library icon again and it will take you back to the top. The same goes for all tab icons. You don't need to backup through the library hierarchy.

It would be nice to have a forward and back button like in web browsers.
That is exactly what the forward and back buttons work.

And how about a button on the top line to see all 20 tabs along with auto hide, one less display line will give more room at the top of the display. The Library button could also show all the tabs and icons since there is plenty of room.
Let me think on this one. We did a lot of stuff to eliminate the need to have more buttons.

Why do we need two buttons to add or delete tabs, the space is taken up with or without 20 tabs on?
If we didn't have both an add and close button, a lot of users would be confused as to how it works. Right now it looks and works just like a web browser so most people know what everything does a first glance.

Have the Library display go away after the last selection.
That can be done, but what about selecting bookmarks, notes, search results, etc.? I like those to not close the window so I can iterate between them. Perhaps I'll make a setting for the library window so it behaves differently?

Add the search icon at top of the Library display.
Already fixed and will be in the next update. For some reason it appeared in the simulator Apple gave us, but not on a real device. (we didn't have real devices to test on before release).

Bring back the option for grid search.
Are you referring to displaying all of the books in a grid, or have the last step being to select a verse from a grid?

Since there is more room, make the chapter and verse grids have rows of ten each so that the left column reads, blank,10,20,30,40, etc to get rid of the need to scroll and make it faster to find the number.
The width needs to stay where it's currently at because of the landscape mode controls.

Please change the Library display to match the tab trail when you change tabs.
What does everyone else think on this one? I could go either way on it.

There isn't two ways to go to the next chapter. Just swiping.

On my iPad tapping on the library button opens the library drop down and then I can use the library icon to get home, two steps. If there is a way to make a home for the tabs, I have not found it. For example, is there a way set a tab home to be 'My Library" and have the library icon take me there when I have that tab selected?

It would be nice to have a forward and back button like in web browsers.
That is exactly what the forward and back buttons work.

My left, right arrows are grayed out, so I cannot get back to the last tab or last book select, they only work if I swipe to move to a new chapter and then the left, right arrow buttons work as you say, not very useful, just another way to move between chapters. A true forward and back button would use the history list to move around.

And how about a button on the top line to see all 20 tabs along with auto hide, one less display line will give more room at the top of the display. The Library button could also show all the tabs and icons since there is plenty of room.

When you want to change tabs, one does not want to scroll, scroll, scroll, to find the tab you need, and eliminating buttons only adds more scrolling, just think of removing buttons from the grid chapter select and you have a single line of buttons to scroll thru like most other slow app for finding a scripture. A tap to bring up all tabs and a tap to go to the one you want is much faster than having a row of tabs taking up reading space that you have to scroll, scroll, scroll and tap to get where you want. The tabs could be very powerful, but I have stopped using all tabs but what I can see without scrolling.

Why do we need two buttons to add or delete tabs, the space is taken up with or without 20 tabs on?

Once you have more tabs than can be displayed, one must scroll the tabs to see all of them, if that is confusing then how does the add and close buttons help them know how to use 20 tabs?

Have the Library display go away after the last selection.

I just would like to do a fast search for a scripture and after I select the verse, in a grid of verses, have the grid go away like on the iPhone. One of the great powers of your iPhone app over the other apps is the speed to get to a desired scripture, the new iPad app has moved behind other apps.

Bring back the option for grid search.
Are you referring to displaying all of the books in a grid, or have the last step being to select a verse from a grid?

Both, at least as an option as on the iPhone app.

Since there is more room, make the chapter and verse grids have rows of ten each so that the left column reads, blank,10,20,30,40, etc to get rid of the need to scroll and make it faster to find the number.

Yes, another wish, hide the Library display when in the landscape mode. Who wants to read the scriptures with a control screen taking up a third of the reading space, why not make it work the same in both viewing modes?

Please change the Library display to match the tab trail when you change tabs.
What does everyone else think on this one? I could go either way on it.

When you are on a verse and would like to move to another verse it is fast and nice to be able to go back to the verse grid and select a new verse without having to start over from the home position.

Make the swipe left and right move to the next page or to last page, since we do not need two ways to get the the next chapter and we badly need a way to page without scrolling.

Technically you are right, the left arrow button no longer moves you back a chapter, and the right arrow button no longer moves you to the next chapter like on the iPhone, but go back or forward remembering a history of how you moved thru the chapters by swiping which is very confusing when the right arrow sometimes moves you back a chapter and the left arrow sometimes takes to the next chapter. We still need a way to page by swiping or two finger tapping and I guess maybe someone does needs to have a way to read all the chapter headings.
