I find that if I try to highlight specific words or a phrase in a verse, highlighting really goes seriously wacko. For example, in Alma 30:27 & 28, I tried to get this:
27 And thus ye lead away this people after the foolish traditions of your fathers, and according to your own desires; and ye keep them down, even as it were in bondage, that ye may glut yourselves with the labors of their hands, that they durst not look up with boldness, and that they durst not enjoy their rights and privileges.
28 Yea, they durst not make use of that which is their own lest they should offend their priests, who do yoke them according to their desires, and have brought them to believe, by their traditions and their dreams and their whims and their visions and their pretended mysteries, that they should, if they did not do according to their words, offend some unknown being, who they say is God—a being who never has been seen or known, who never was nor ever will be.
That is in red or black or default color and bolded I want those particular words and phrases highlighted. It looks fine when in highlighting mode. When I exit, it looks like this:
Sometimes verse 28 gets messed up, too. When I go back into highlight mode, verse 27 looks just like the way I want it. When I try to erase everything, it only erases selected highlights and not all of them. When I was trying to get it to work, there was a point when I was erasing that it would not even select when I touched the screen. There was a section of several lines in the middle of verse 28 that would not respond to any touch of my finger. Like a dead spot on the screen.
I tried erasing everything in the verse to no avail. I have to erase in sections. I can highlight the whole verse in a color and erase that.
Another anomaly that was happening before this was that sometimes after I highlighted, the font size in the verse that I just highlighted (either the whole verse or parts of it) was smaller. See the thread at http://standardworksapp.com/bugs/highlighting-anomolies.html.
I had completely flushed out the memory of my iPod Touch 3G, so memory is not part of the problem. All are the latest versions of LDS Scriptures and iPhone OS. The small font highlihighting problem has been there for the last two revs.

ADDENDUM to previous report.
ADDENDUM to previous report. Although I showed that verse 28 maintained its correct formatting, when I quit the app and come back, it is now bolded from "yoke" to the end of the verse. And just like before, when I go into highlight mode, the formatting looks the way I want it to be.
I found and tracked down the
I found and tracked down the problem. The issue is with using the same highlighting style twice in a row. In looking over all of the cases I was testing for in prior releases, everyone was sending me complex examples with multiple colors, formatting styles, etc. in the same verse so I missed this simple case. You can leave it as is until the next update and it will be fixed, or, for now, just don't use the same style twice in a row. For example, in verse 27, if you also underline the word bondage (thus changing its highlighting style), it will all appear correctly in your version.
I'm having the same problems.
I'm having the same problems. What are the work arounds? This feature is what has me reading my scriptures better. I love it, but if I'm going to use it, it has to be reliable. If there is a work around, I can work with it. Help?
Hello? Just checking back to
Hello? Just checking back to see what the work arounds are. Anybody?
In case you want to check
In case you want to check this out, I'm having a problem even with two different kinds of formatting in the same verse. I had marked the beginning of a paragraph in a Gen. Conf. talk with just red lettering. Then I tried to mark the last sentence of the same paragraph in color, bold, and italics. It marked the last part of my first highlight with the color/bold/italics but not what I just marked except for one word in the middle and two of the last words. Then when I tried to erase everything in that paragraph it erased everything except for one word. I then had to erase just that word.
I tried to then use the underline like you suggested because it worked before, but the same thing happened in that it underlined the last part of the highlight of the first sentence and the last two words of the paragraph.
OK, thanks. The underlining
OK, thanks. The underlining did do the trick. Will leave it for now, I suppose. Thanks for the speedy attention to this matter.

I've got a different problem,
I've got a different problem, in addition to the one already mentioned. Often times, when highlighting a scripture, and I think it tends to be scriptures that are already partially highlighted, I'll attempt to highlight and it messes up the highlighting formatting in the rest of the verse. And invariably, words I intended to highlight are no longer highlightable. Words in the line above and below will be selected instead. It's very odd. So, I end up with funky highlighting throughout the verse, with some words highlighted, some not. I've started to tag verses that are giving me highlighting problems and I've accumulated quite a list. It would be hard to explain but I could send you a number of screenshots if you're interested, Terry.
We did find and fix an issue
We did find and fix an issue that sounds like what you're describing, but if you could give me a specific example I would love to double-check it.
I am in October 2009 General
I am in October 2009 General Conference, Saturday Afternoon, Tad R. Callister, "Joseph Smith--Prophet of the Restoration." I have fourth paragraph down I have this:
The scriptures give further evidence of this great truth: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son” (John 3:16). A father offering up his only son is the supreme demonstration of love that the human mind and heart can conceive and feel. It is symbolized by the touching story of Abraham and Isaac (see Genesis 22). But if the Father is the same being as the Son, then this sacrifice of all sacrifices is lost, and Abraham is no longer offering up Isaac—Abraham is now offering up Abraham.
I'm trying to highlight various passages, but nothing works. Try it--try doing different passages in different formats and it all goes whacky. Nothing I want highlighted stays highlighted the way I want it.
I hope I have all of these
I hope I have all of these issues fixed now for this next release. I spent around 10 minutes highlighting and changing highlighting around that verse and it all looks good.
