Cannot start/end highlight with single letter word under verse slider

I just tried to start highlighting a passage that began with the word "I." Couldn't do it, though, because when I touched it, the Verse Slider appeared. There was no way to highlight it. I had to pinch to a larger font to change where the "I" appeared on the screen.

Also, once I did that, the highlighted text was smaller than the unhighlighted text. Going into options and setting the font size set things back to normal.
