I'm curious as to what people think. If you had an iPad, would you use it in Church?
I use my iPhone exclusively (I haven't taken my paper scriptures to church in 1.5 years now), but the iPhone is small and more discreet. I don't think I'd ever consider taking a laptop and using it, but an iPad, maybe - bordering on probably.
My last Priesthood lesson was
My last Priesthood lesson was taught off an iPad. It really wasn't as awkward as I thought it would be. I'll eventually bring it to church, but not until iPad hype dies down a little, I hate show and tell! But the more I play with it the more I realize the great resource it is. I definitely will bring it to church eventually. There is nothing like having my entire gospel brain with me at church and I can actually read the .pdf's my institute teacher gave me.
I believe I would use an iPad
I believe I would use an iPad at Church. It is larger and I like the advantage of being able to put my Touch in my pocket. However, I could see myself using one but some features would really be needed (I know that these features are available, but they could be easier):
* Ability to take notes during lessons
* Ability to create/link talks
* Ability to hit the internet (I'd prefer WiFi since I am cheap, although the no-contract $30/mo 3G option sounds great)
* Availability of LDS-related apps like Ward Tools apps for me the Ward Clerk (put MLS in the cloud, already, I am tired of running to the ward building)
* Better link switching between apps; the current home screen navigation just isn't very powerful. I need quicker switching between apps like a dedicated, programmable way)
actually, i connect my laptop
actually, i connect my laptop to a tv and use powerpoints while teaching my sunday school lessons. so an ipad would probably be more ideal for me in that regard. as far as using it to read scriptures during sacrament or classes, i think that it'll probably be like when people first started to use their phones to read at church. at first it seems odd and novel, but after while it doesn't seem so out of place. if i weren't teaching, however, i might side with bwoods in that it's nice being able to just go hands free to church.
I wouldn't. Its size takes
I wouldn't. Its size takes away the very reason why I use the Touch for my scriptures--small and portable in my pocket. I am hands-free at church. With an iPad, I might as well carry my scriptures around again. It would be awfully gaudy and ostentatious, even a bit pretentious in the chapel, besides.
But hey--I can already think of a free iTunes app for the iPad. One that makes the screen look like the Ten Commandments tablet!
Hey! I got one! I got one!
Hey! I got one! I got one! Not the iPad, but the revolutionary iPad Mini! It's called the iPod Touch. I just love this miniaturization trend of technology! .... :)
